Christmas? Meh.

Okay so Christmas is actually a week away now! This year has gone really fast for me! And everyone's all like ''Omg Sophia it's Christmas in a week yayayayayayayayayay omfg eigowheogeufiwehfweou9ghe98ho'' :D and I'm like ''Omg I know it's gonna be amazing I'm sooooo exited yayayayayayayayayyay fhig809gh04h8g0h0dgsd.'' :D
But really I'm just like, ''Oh, meh. Cool story bro, needs more dragons.'' :|
I'm not a Scrooge or anything, Bah Humbag, it's not like that. I don't hate Christmas (unless you catch me on a bad day), I like it. It's just there's never been much Christmas spirit in my house, and the relationship between me and my arrogant 17 year old brother, my constantly fed up and grouchy dad, and his shy new wife is rather awkward. I mean, I love them, I'm grateful to have them as my family and everything, but we don't get on that well.
Oh my god I just realised my brother is 2 weeks off being 18.

Okay focus Sophia, back on topic.
So we don't get on that well, and it's just a bit awkward. It's not that I don't try, it's just it's unbearably uncomfortable being squeezed into a Christmas dinner and family gathering over the holidays. I'm not good with relatives coming over, I just get nervous. And I don't really like the traditional Christmas food either :/ Except roast potatoes. They're my babies! I love them! :D Nomnomnom.
But another thing I don't like about Christmas is how selfish and ungrateful people can get. It's not all about getting your iPhone and your Laptop and...okay maybe for some people it is. But I don't think it should be. Everyone is so obsessed with the presents and what they're going to get. I haven't asked for something for years now. I just feel I should take what I get, be grateful for that. I much prefer making and buying presents for my friends and family. Thats what I like about Christmas. I didn't have much money this year, so I got some of them chocolate and my closer friends, I bought cheap but cute little friendship bracelets in their favorite colours from the German Market in Edinburgh. And for the even closer friends, I drew them something. If you're a random who doesn't know me, you won't know that I'm alright at art. But for my friends who might end up reading this, I'm not gonna spill what I drew.
(And yes I do plan to upload arty posts and artwork in process.)
I think the worst part of Christmas though is the consumerism. All the shops just use it as an excuse for more tacky adverts. As if we don't already have enough trampling our Youtube videos and splayed across Facebook. And they do it way to early! They make me sick of Christmas before my birthday has even been (September 4th). I remember a few years ago, back of August,my Dad and I were in M&S shopping for a birthday cake for me, and we couldn't find any.

Why couldn't we find any, you ask?
Oh, no reason, just they'd sort of filled the shelves with Christmas cakes 4 months early and didn't have any room. For God sake -_- I'm not even exaggerating, it's ridiculous.
And Christmas shouldn't be seen as a duty, a yearly routine we have to 'drag' ourselves through. I think that's the way my Dad see's it, and it's sad :( I really think Christmas should be seem as a time to be together with those you love, and remembering how lucky you are to have everything you do, even the simple stuff like your parents, a roof over your head, food, an education or a source of income. You know? People forget. But apparently if you have a roof over your head, you are richer than 3/4 of the worlds population. Look at the picture. We should be being happy with what we've got, so many people don't. Get yourself involved with a cause you care about over Christmas, even if you're only making a small difference, together we make a huge impact. I'm currently trying to find out if it's possible for me help out regularly with Mary's Meals work. I've packed bags with them as part of Rangers (senior section of girls guiding) a couple times and it was amazing. If you don't know who Mary's Meals are? Google is you're best friend -_- Find a cause that matters to you and get involved, remember what Christmas is like in other parts of the world. I've heard some pretty grim situations.
So remember what really matters this Christmas, and decide what Christmas means to you.
And just one last thing! I've been listening to the radio a lot recently. I'd like to officially announce that all Mariah Carey want's for Christmas, is meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
Oh Lord, I HATE that song. -_-
